This post is written as a diary to my baby (Guriya).
Dear Guriya,
Your mummy daddy has made lots of memories together. We have made more memories than we have actually captured. We were not photographic pro but definitely photogenic and photophobic. When you were born, it was a great milestone to cherish and celebrate. We don’t have your many photos but we really wanted some photos that we can keep with us always.
Newborn shoot must be taken place within six weeks of born date after which the baby surpasses newborn stage. During this six months postpartum struggle, I managed to find few options for newborn photography shoots and coordinated with them. Based on the reviews and budget, I finalized one photographer. We went to her studio early morning and so much early that we were before time and had to drink a cup of coffee in a nearby café before we could go for the shoot.
As we reached there, it was a small studio with a smiling girl (photographer) to welcome us. Due to some technical error in her phone, she couldn’t arrange the setup which we have already decided and shared with her. However, she along with her team member were quick enough to arrange it. First the shoot began with a family photo followed by your (baby’s) solo pictures. There were some very cute little props in the studio, the small bed, cute wraps, baby cart etc. The photographer girl was really calm and making us feel calm too. She was really good with handling babies. She had tricks to make baby fall asleep and calm down. She was really careful with the temperature adjustment while changing your (baby’s) clothes. Thankfully we had got inner wear so we were least worried about all the put-up clothing on you. It was half-way in the shoot that you woke up and there she puts on a baby sleeping audio from YouTube to make you go to sleep.
One thing that made us really worried during the shoot was the milk bottle that we took with us. You finished the milk within first hour only. We didn’t had more milk powder and in the newborn phase milk was the only way to make you milk drunk and go to sleep. We thought the shoot is over but somehow the photographer managed to complete shoot with an active baby. I must say it was a tough job! The trick she used to calm you, was making you suck the bottle nipple when needed. This way you would sleep for some more time without the milk being fed to you. Though it completed the shoot, you ended up with having really bad gastric issue.
A suggestion for the photographer is to have a separate Facebook page of her Karachi-based studio as some of the props and wraps displayed on her page that we wanted to select for our baby’s newborn shoot belonged to their studio’s Dubai branch.
